Tasting notes
Deep ruby-red. Superripe aromas of raspberry, mocha, black olive and game. Large-scaled, saline and sappy, conveying a powerful impression of terroir with its notes of syrah-like game, mocha, truffle and pepper. Wonderfully tactile zinfandel, finishing extremely long, with tannins covered by peppery fruit. The Turley wine from this site has been consistently spectacular in recent years.

A fabulous Zinfandel that reminded me of a Chateauneuf du Pape was the 2006 Zinfandel Ueberroth Vineyard. Another Paso Robles vineyard, very close to the limestone vineyards of Saxum, this wine tops the scales at 16.1% alcohol. It has an almost Chateau Rayas-like delicacy, with gorgeous kirsch liqueur notes intermixed with licorice, black raspberry, and cherry, and to me it tasted like a dead-ringer for an old-vine Grenache. The wine is full-bodied, opulent, and a super hedonistic as well as intellectual turn-on. It should drink well for 5-7 years. (Not yet released) Tel. (707) 963-0940; Fax (707) 963-8683
