The 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a detailed, mineral-driven bouquet with more complexity than its peers, very focused and terroir-driven. The palate has a sense of completeness about it: it’s beautifully balanced, fresh and saline, with plenty of substance, a fine bead of acidity and good concentration on the finish. This has all the elements of a top-drawer Corton-Charlemagne. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

Bottled. Seems subtle at first but opens up to a complex if embryonic combination of lemon and orange fruit, stony freshness and the suggestion of the round creamy character of lees and barrel. (JH)
