Monforte d’Alba. Paler than most. Scented and already quite haunting. Lovely lift and acidity. Dry, but all seems to be in balance. (JR)

The 2013 Barolo Bussia is elegant, restrained and polished. Here, too, the aromatics are quite lifted. Sweet tobacco, orange peel, mint, dried flowers and anise all grace the palate. This is a decidedly mid-weight Barolo that is ethereal almost to the point of being fleeting. I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later.

The Antinori family has completed an enormous amount of work to perfect and manage their vineyard holdings in Monforte d'Alba. The 2013 Barolo Bussia is stitched together with fine detailing. The aromas are delicate and nuanced, yet when put together, they expand in intensity and unity. This is a smooth and silky expression that moves with grace over all the senses. It is a mid-wight expression that should flesh out with a few more years of bottle aging.

Monforte d’Alba. Tasted blind. Just mid ruby and really the odd one out in its paleness. A little medicinal and closed on the nose. Quite tart acidity cutting through brooding fruit. Plenty of coating tannins and really not ready but has all the ingredients for ageing. Just a tiny bit skinny. (WS)
