From a vineyard owned by Jean Phillips that Bevan claims is one of the few red-dirt vineyards in Stags Leap District, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Vixen Block Wildfoote Vineyard features notes of licorice, plum and dark toast. Full-bodied, rich, velvety and dense, with a hint of chocolate on the long, plush finish, the wine does develop some delicate wildflower notes with air, so perhaps there is more here than I'm giving it credit for.

Darker chocolate, Asian spices, violets, and lead pencil notes emerge from the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Wildfoote Vineyard, a monster, super-expressive Cabernet with supple, ripe tannins and a great finish. It shows the balanced, forward, incredibly charming style of the vintage and is ideal for drinking over the coming 15-20 years.
Russell Bevan takes all the character of Stags Leap and turns the volume up to eleven with his 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Wildfoote Vineyard Vixen Block. Silky, layered and opulent to the core, the 2019 is an unabashedly opulent, full-throttle Cabernet loaded with character. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, spice, menthol and licorice build into the unctuous finish.
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Wildfoote Vineyard Vixen Block is fabulous. Red/purplish berry fruit and bright floral notes confer energy to a Cabernet that balances textural opulence with Stags Leap vibrancy. Intensely aromatic and beautifully layered, this barrel sample suggests great things are in store. What a wine.
