Tasting notes
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a lovely, lightly-spiced bouquet leaning toward black rather than red fruit and just a faint ferrous element. The palate is medium in body with sappy red fruit. Fresh and sapid in style, with good grip, this is just a little muscular on the finish where I am seeking some grace. It does gain greater clarity in the glass, prompting me to upgrade my assessment. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru, which contains two-thirds whole bunches, is a vintage that I never tasted from barrel as the wine was reduced at the time. It has a well-defined nose, a mélange of red and black fruit, pressed iris flowers and a touch of crushed stone. The palate has more precision and delineation than the 2018. More red fruit here, slightly chalky in texture with an underlying bitter cherry note lending some frisson towards the finish. Tasted at the Domaine de L’Arlot tasting at La Cabotte in London.
Spicy, very fruity nose. Round and fruity palate with Vosne drive nicely compensating for the ripeness. Already lots of fun to drink though you are aware of the alcohol. Big presence in the mouth. Quite a bit of sweetness. (JR)
