Serralunga d’Alba. 30 days on the skins. Half of the wine was aged in large (20-hl) oak casks for two years, the other half in used barrique. Just mid ruby. A nose of oatmeal, sweetly perfumed red fruit and hints of black pepper. Sweet red-fruit palate that is still embryonic. Plenty of energetic, crunchy tannins that frame the supple fruit and with subtle, lasting acidity. Can be approached now, but will repay a bit of cellaring. (WS)
