Tasting notes
50 ares (1.2 acres) in Les Rouges du Bas. Lots of small stones. Vines 85 years old. 90% stems and 40% new oak. Barrel sample. Intense yet elegant aroma that is much less marked by the stems than you might expect. Smells deliciously sweet fruited, not stereotypically Échezeaux. Intensely fruity and just a light touch of herbs and spice. Firm, chewy, mineral on the finish. Finesse in the extreme with just the right depth of fruit but not – at the moment – a fruity wine. (JH)
