Drink 2027-2042, FINE+RARE, Nov 2024

The 2023 Corton comes from three different plots: Le Rognet, Les Grandes Lolières and Maréchaudes, all on the Ladoix side. The result is a very typical Corton, with a great, dark red fruit profile and spicy notes. The palate is rich but balanced. Medium-bodied and unmarked by oak, the tannins are velvety and round, welcoming but with a nerve of acidity that gives an extra layer of finesse to this Grand Cru. The finish is serious – delicate with a hint of creaminess. This effort should repay three or four years’ cellaring but is very appealing now. Top wine. Three barrels produced, aged in a third new oak and all de-stemmed.

One-third new oak. 100% destemmed. Cask sample. Mid garnet. Interesting, already layered, sweet-fruited nose. Very smooth-textured with a fine undertow still with traces of (good-quality) oak. Some spice. Very nicely judged and a proper Corton.
