(the crop level was held to 38 hectoliters per hectare owing to a bit of coulure during the flowering): Bright, light yellow. Less expressive on the nose than the last couple of samples but very pure. Silky and seamless in texture, offering a juicy quality and a touch of austerity to its flavors of pear, white peach, flowers and minerals. Finishes smooth and fresh, with lovely building length and the energy to support mid-term aging.

More buttery and fleshy than their Garenne, with a punchy acidic grip and a long, stately persistence. Loads of complexity and elegance on the palate. (RH)

The 2015 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain offers crisp Granny Smith apples and dewy pasture scents on the nose, reserved at first but opening nicely in the glass. The palate is fresh and crisp with a pleasant fatness in the mouth. It is a Champs Gain laden with both weight and presence, hints of walnut and spice towards the finish that like the La Garenne, just needs a little more energy and tension to evolve.

Pale yellow. Hints of licorice and lichee along with pineapple, lime and white peach on the nose. Youthfully tight today, showing a juicy quality and a restrained sweetness to its fruit. This slightly minty wine is most impressive for its dry extract and chewy, tactile finish. Less silky than the Garenne--in fact, a bit austere in the style of the 2014 Champ Gain.
