More concentrated than the Vignerondes although less showy. A most impressive line of fruit – very pure direction on the palate. Extremely intense with impressive density. Sleek with great energy and freshness. A very promising wine. (JR)

Leroy’s 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Boudots smells of black cherry, beet root and black chocolate. Polished and suave on the palate, with pure, sweet black cherry and raspberry fruit in both liqueur-like and fresh forms (as with so many of the wines in this collection), it also displays deep meat and mushroom stock and a singed, caramelized edge to the fruit. This epitomizes the concept “layered,” but on the other hand, it leaves no nooks or crannies for warts or quirky complexities to inhabit because it’s seamless. Importer: Martine’s Wines. Full ruby-red. Less primary fruit and more smoked meat and mineral complexity on the nose today. Hugely rich and chewy, with the strong minerality carrying through on the palate. Complex and stuffed with material but still a bit youthfully austere at present. This impressively deep wine comes across as less elegant today than the Vignerondes, and its substantial tannins will require a good decade of aging.
