Score 17/20 · Drink 2022-2030, Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com, Jul 2022

Full bottle 1,340 g.  Needs decanting. Quite a bit of funk on the nose for a long while after being poured. Smells like decaying rose petals and hot, rusty iron. Like wood, varnished a long time ago, and starting to turn to dust. The rusty iron tang is there in the mouth; and oxidising plum skins, old blood, bruised hawthorn berries. Vanilla coffee with a malty, old-wood sweetness in the tannins. It's complex, dense and has a narrative. But this wine is hot. The only one of the Santadi reds that I find too hot. The tannins are velvety and there is a lovely sweet-red-tea earthiness in the finish, but just a wee bit too hot and tense. (TC)
