Tasting notes
The 2022 Syrah Il Padrino Bien Nacido Vineyard is a stunner that perfectly balances its classically styled Northern Rhône influences with modern presentation. A knockout nose of sandalwood, incense, beef jerky and green olive aromas is a fitting prelude to the svelte, rich and beautifully textured palate. It closes with a latent, patiently intense finish that walks the line of sweet, luscious fruits and spice-tinged exoticism. This is a high-definition rendering of a historic vineyard through a contemporary lens, this should develop wonderfully through its 10th birthday.

The 2022 Syrah Il Padrino Bien Nacido Vineyard is more elegant and mid-weight compared to the Larner Vineyard, offering a beautiful Côte Rôtie perfume of black raspberries, spring flowers, game, pepper, and even a kiss of bacon fat. With medium-bodied richness, a pure, elegant, seamless mouthfeel, soft tannins, and outstanding length, it's a joy to drink today yet should continue drinking fabulously well through 2032. It doesn't match the all-time greats of this cuvée, but it's a gorgeous Syrah nevertheless.
The 2022 Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard Il Padrino is floral and nicely lifted. Crushed flowers, red-toned fruit, blood orange, spice and mint open first. This a lighter, more aromatic style than most vintages, the result of vines that shut down because of intense heat and then only reached moderate ripeness.
