Bright ruby-red. Slightly high-toned aromas of black cherry, licorice and animal fur; this will go truffley with bottle aging. Very round and smooth for the year, conveying an essential softness to its rather wild flavors of black cherry, violet and lift. Boasts superb volume for a village wine but underlying flinty minerality gives it grip.

(60% vendange entier ; 18 hectoliters per hectare; 85% new oak): Good dark red. Rather wild aromas of blueberry, smoke and minerals, plus a flinty nuance. Sweeter and finer-grained than the Coeur de Roi, offering nicely ripe flavors of purple fruits. Finishes with subtle mounting length and chocolatey tannins. Dugat says the marne blanche in this hillside vineyard is good soil for white wine.

From Bernard’s 75-year-old vines, the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin les Evocelles has a very expressive bouquet, with dark cherries and blackberry neatly carrying the new oak. The palate is sweet and concentrated on the entry with saturated tannins, mulberry and black plum forming the rounded, quite powerful finish. Fine, but a bit "stocky" at the moment.

60% whole bunch. 67% new oak. 70-year-old vines. Lots of millerandé grapes, all very small. Very perfumed and headily seductive. Racy and minerally refreshing. Very pure and impressive. Relatively forward and a crackling good drink. (JR)
