The 2020 Echézeaux Les Treux Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet, although a patina of new oak needs to be assimilated. However, I feel there are precise, minimal aromatics that will be revealed with time. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. It's a little more austere than its peers, with touches of black pepper towards the finish, where I find the tannins a little obtrusive at the moment. Maybe time will improve this Echézeaux. From a parcel planted in 1937 comes the 2020 Echézeaux Grand Cru Les Treux Vieilles Vignes, a cuvée produced from a parcel that amounts to a third of a hectare. Wafting from the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums, exotic spices and petals that are framed by a generous patina of new oak, it's full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with plenty of velvety tannins and a deep, structured core. This will require and reward at least a decade's patience.
The 2020 Echézeaux Les Treux Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru, matured entirely in new oak, needed quite a bit of aeration to peer behind the veneer of wood. There appears to be good concentration here. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, fine acidity, fleshy and rounded. Yes, there is a sheen of new oak on the finish but it does feel very silky. Good potential.
