Tasted blind at Farr Vintners Kumeu/White Burgundy tasting. The 2012 Puligny-Montrachet from Etienne Sauzet has a very pleasant reduction on the nose: real mineralité here, intense and convincing, the kind of aromatics that take you by the lapels and demand attention. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, fresh and complex with a lovely saline element toward the finish. For a village cru Burgundy this punches above its weight and is well worth seeking out.

Pale yellow. Slightly reduced aromas and flavors of citrus peel, menthol and minerality. Nicely concentrated, dry and classic, offering good volume for village wine and a lovely sugar/acid balance. A bit less saline than the 2013 but has more texture and intensity.

(I tasted an assemblage of lots): Bright, medium straw-yellow. Slightly reduced aromas of mirabelle, licorice, lichee, spices and pepper. Then juicy and quite dry on the palate, with a slightly exotic lichee quality supported by a firm mineral underpinning. Not especially fruity today.
