The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has turned out brilliantly, wafting from the glass with a compelling bouquet of cherries, wild berries, peonies, dark chocolate, licorice and spices. Full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, its fleshy core of fruit is built around powdery tannins and succulent acids, complemented by inviting sapid nuance. I'm very happy to have several bottles aging in my cellar.

The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru offers red cherries and blueberry fruit on the nose, which lives up to its name, though I find more complexity this year on the Lavaux Saint-Jacques by direct comparison. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, a very smooth texture and impressive density, though I discern just a little heaviness on the finish at the moment.
