Drink 0-0, Neal Martin, Jul 2008

The bottle of 1924 Clos Fourtet formed part of a vertical organised by the Fine Wine Experience in London in July 2008. This is clearly showing its age, though there is more freshness compared directly with the 1928 and 1929, with autumn leaves, fungal scents and leather. The palate is surprising sweet on the entry with a dose of brown sugar in what feels like a heavily chaptalized Saint-Émilion. It has been dismembered by volatility and oxygen.
