(Wine Society bottling.) Dark tawny with fox-red notes. Rather simple caramel nose. Lots of sweetness, alcohol and richness. Maybe slightly more alcohol than one would seek ideally but it is certainly still going strong. Freshness and attractive kick on the finish after all that sweetness. Dried apricots stewed to a syrup but so vital and revitalising. More acidity than the 1947. (JR)
