The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Cuvée Duvault-Blochet 1er Cru is superb. We are in Vosne. Aromatically in a different register from the Corton that precedes it in this tasting, the Cuvée Duvault-Blochet is all sensuality, all class. Rose petal, mint, crushed flowers and dried herbs open first, leading to a chiseled core of fruit. Nervy and light on its feet, the 2020 is a real charmer. DRC's young-vines Vosne-Romanée Cuvée Duvault-Blochet 1er Cru, from parcels in Grands Echézeaux and La Tâche, is an absolute delight in 2020.

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Cuvée Duvault-Blochet 1er Cru was cropped at 18.8hL/ha. It is slightly deeper in color compared to other vintages. It has a precocious and pure bouquet with redcurrant, cranberry and just a touch of peony. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry, high-toned with a light spicy element emerging with time. This is one of the most outgoing Duvault-Blochets that I have encountered. There's more blueberry fruit, almost pastille-like, towards the finish. Joyous but it leaves the cerebral aspects of Pinot Noir to its fellow cuvées. 679 cases produced. Tasted at Corney & Barrow's tasting in London.

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cuvée Duvault-Blochet is largely derived from a younger vine parcel of La Tâche, planted in 1998, that's complemented by some young vines in Grands-Échézeaux. Bursting with aromas of sweet wild berries, exotic spices and classy new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and velvety, with a layered, concentrated mid-palate that's built around powdery tannins and vibrant acids. Flamboyant but nicely balanced, this is a real success in 2020.
