Based on 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot and brought up 12 months in 30% new oak, the 2023 Château Poujeaux offers ripe red and black fruits, roasted herbs, tobacco, and some chocolaty notes on the nose. It's medium-bodied, has good concentration, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. It could be drunk with plenty of pleasure today, yet this will nevertheless benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and have two decades of longevity with ease. Drink 2030-2045.

The 2023 Poujeaux is terrific. Bold and juicy, the 2023 wraps around the palate with sumptuous red-toned fruit. Blood orange, cinnamon and cedar inflections add layers of nuance, while plush contours wrap it all together in style. This is a terrific Poujeaux. It offers a bit more early appeal than some recent vintages, and yet it also has the structure to age gracefully for many years to come. Tasted two times.
The 2023 Poujeaux has a refined and delineated bouquet that unfolds nicely in the glass; blackberry and gravel, light black pepper scents with a touch of freshly rolled tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with gently grippy tannins. Well balanced with neatly integrated oak, this is a Poujeaux that should develop in bottle. Good density for the vintage.
This château that was hit by hail in July. The 2023 Château Poujeaux is based on close to equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a splash of Petit Verdot. Ripe redcurrants, cassis, leafy herbs, and some floral, graphite notes all emerge from the glass, and this medium-bodied Moulis has good overall density and depth, ripe tannins, and a solid finish. This elegant, pretty 2023 will shine right out of the gate. Tasted three times with consistent notes.
About the producer
The Cuvelier family, which also owns Clos Fourtet, purchased this estate in 2008. It is one of the stars of the appellation, renowned for producing wine that is well above the standard of its neighbours.
