Tasting notes
The 2023 La Gurgue has really come around since I tasted it from barrel. Heady and boisterous in the glass, the 2023 is seriously impressive. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice, plum and mocha are all dialed up. There's a good amount of Petit Verdot in this blend, and that comes through in the wine's dark, intensely savory character. This powerful, tightly wound Margaux delivers the goods. There's a bit of brawn in the tannins, but nothing time can't soften. Aging was 12 months in a mix of French oak barrels, concrete and amphora.

The 2023 La Gurgue has an attractive bouquet with blackberry and violet fruit, just a touch of brown spices. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly hard tannins on the entry. Fine acidity, quite a solid Margaux that just needs to loosen up on the finish.
The 2023 Château La Gurgue will be terrific, with beautiful red and darker fruits as well as some tobacco, graphite, and chocolate notes. It's balanced, medium-bodied, has fine tannins, and beautiful density. The blend is 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 14% Petit Verdot, raised in 15% new French oak.
A fresh and focused red with a medium body and fine tannins. It’s crunchy, with good fruit concentration in the center-palate, showing plum and redcurrant highlights. Bright and firm at the end. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification.
