Score 17/20 · Drink 2023-2032, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Nov 2019

Very thin soils over the limestone but very sunny. Over the last three years Sylvain has experimented with different percentages of whole bunch. This is 60%. Towards the Château de Marsannay. 1 ha (2.5 acres) and next to Au Champ Salomon. Clay over layered limestone. Too powerful for 100% whole bunch, says Laurent Pataille. Tank sample. A little more sober and darker fruited than the Marsannay village wine, a little riper in fruit character but perfectly fresh and the stemmy freshness just right to balance the sunny fruit. Firm tannins, chalky, compact and just letting the fruit escape at the moment. Denser and more compact, less ready. Firm, dry, fresh and long. (JH)
