Tasting notes
The 2020 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese is pure, clear and flinty on the concentrated nose that is reminiscent of a fresh fruit salad served on a slate plate on an early summer morning. Light, lush and highly finessed but seriously structured on the palate, this is a savory, very clear and elegant Sonnenuhr Spätlese with great precision and finesse and highly stimulating salinity and mouth-watering grip on the finish. The acidity is crystalline and very delicate, making this another great Mosel Spätlese from the 2020 vintage. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 37 21 in July 2022.

Bright and intense on the nose, with some candied brown sugar and delicate flinty notes, the 2020 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese reveals a finely weathered slate aroma intertwined with ripe and generous but still fine and elegant fruit. Mouth-filling, round and seamlessly textured, this is an elegant and balanced Spätlese with juicy, stimulating, salty fruit and finish. Again, a very sensual WSU that was bottled with 8.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted from AP 7 21 in November 2021.
Tenser and tighter than the 2020 Graacher Himmelreich. But very mellifluous and composed. Clean and crystalline. Flowers and stones. Real grip. (JR)
