(aged for a year in 26% new French oak hogsheads): Inky ruby. Sexy, expressive aromas of oak-spiced cassis, blackberry, mocha and vanilla, with a smoky mineral overtone. Densely packed but juicy and energetic, conveying a light touch to its bitter cherry, dark berry and violet pastille flavors. Finishes penetrating and appealingly sweet, with silky tannins and lingering vanilla and spicecake notes.

26% new French oak. Massive renovations going on in Coonawarra undertaken by Treasury team with Sue Hodder at the helm. Coonawarra has been the primary source of Bin 128 Shiraz since its first release of the 1962 vintage. TA 6.3 g/l, pH 3.63. 12 months in 26% new, 41% one-year-old and 33% two-year-old French oak hogsheads. Blackish crimson. Pretty intense and monolithic on the nose. Blackcurrant-lozenge nose. More than a hint of Cabernet about this. Still pretty chewy. Well sculpted. Appetising. (JR)
