The 2016 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru has a well-defined, quite effervescent bouquet with cranberry, raspberry coulis and subtle loamy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, slightly rigid at the moment, backward with gentle grip and a slightly austere finish. Give this red Saint-Aubin a couple of years in bottle. Tasted at the Domaine Direct Tasting in London.

Transparent ruby. Very zesty and fruity with a real undertow of structure. Lovely pure fruit. No hint of a lesser appellation. A real beginning, middle and end to this wine. Soaringly pure fruit yet lots to get your teeth into. (JR)
