Tasting notes
Deep garnet core with a hint of brick on the rim. Meaty, minty cassis. Thickly textured but velvety, packed with rich but slightly minty cassis fruit, seems very youthful. Had to check the label and make sure it really was 97. And not even starting to tire. (JH)

The powerful (14.1% alcohol), superb 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville (84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc) exhibits a complex, Pauillac-like nose of cedar, fruitcake, black currants, and spicy new oak. There is medium to full body, well-integrated sweet tannin and acidity, an opulent texture, and a layered, long finish. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2025. Tel.
