Bright, full red. Began a bit dull on the nose, with a rooty licorice aroma dominating, but aeration brought more interesting strawberry and mocha notes. Broad, full and lush in the mouth, but a bit chunky; I found myself wanting a bit more sweetness and verve. Plenty of material here but the wine doesn't quite come alive.

(60% new oak) Good deep red. Wild aromas of candied fruits, mocha and smoke. Sweet, broad and generous; a step up in volume and sweetness from the Cazetiers but without quite the same impression of spine or personality. Finishes with dusty tannins and intriguing notes of licorice and spices.
