90% Nebbiolo, 10% Barbera aged separately in French barriques (60% new) for 12 months after which they were blended. First vintage 1983. Concentrated, deep ruby. Balsamic, rather than sweet, oak nose with the inky blueberry notes of Barbera and the spicy cherry of the Nebbiolo and with the oak perfectly integrated. Plenty of fresh, crunchy fruit, which has a beautiful lightness of touch. (WS)
