Biodynamic. Mid cherry red. Dusty but lively dark fruit. Mouth-watering and life-affirming in its freshness. Lightish tannins but all in shape. (JH)

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, which includes 10% new oak like the Beaune les Teurons, has a straightforward bouquet with redcurrant and cranberry scents, withdrawn at first but opening with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry. Moderate weight in the mouth and with a light saline note towards the finish, this is a satisfying if slightly foursquare Gevrey-Chambertin.

This is aromatically quite different as the nose is at once more restrained and much, much earthier while displaying plenty of sauvage character on the dark currant scents. The rich, bold and vibrant flavors possess fine mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a mildly rustic, complex and moderately firm finish. This is a very good Gevrey villages and worth considering. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
