They bought this wine from their neighbours, whose records show it to be 1866. This wine comes from an original batch of five chestnut barrels, which matured and concentrated over time in an extremely favourable environment, to give only two barrels of 550 litres each. Bottled 2012 straight from the cask without any form of 'refreshment'. Dark burnt umber. Dark, savoury and rich and viscous even though it sweet. With molasses and still with apricot flavours. So incredibly concentrated. Raisins and prunes but with that orange intensity. Stunning. (JH)
