This relatively new appellation is really coming into its own, not least in warmer vintages. A red from a newish domaine that has earned its stripes with some particularly fine whites. Transparent garnet. The palate is much gentler and more beguiling than the rather inexpressive nose but it's a little dry and grainy on the finish. It is well priced for a red burgundy though … GV (JR)

Broad and lemony. On the basis of this wine, easy to see why Maranges was given its own appellation. Chiselled but well balanced. Chalky finish. Long. (JR)
The 2014 Maranges 1Er Cru la Fussières, which comes from around a dozen small parcels, was showing a very reduced nose when I tasted it from barrel; the palate has good weight in the mouth and fine tannin, though its character is difficult to read at the moment, so I will come back to this later.
