The 2008 Pensées de Lafleur has a well-defined, smoke and truffle-tinged bouquet that is pretty and elegant, a wine that has clearly opened up in the last couple of years. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, very focused with gentle grip in the mouth. The fruit is on the darker side laced with smoke and black pepper, fanning out gently towards the finish that remains very composed. Excellent. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting.

Tasted blind. Smudgy colour and rather different from its peers. Gentle texture and more lifted than most without being particularly sweet. Dense fruit. Distinctive. (JR)

Healthy crimson. Very attractive sweetness and lushness with spice and appeal. Verily a petit Lafleur! Luscious. Very rich and wonderfully long and hedonistic on the end. (JR)

Tasted at Justerini & Brooks agency tasting in London. The Les Pensées de Lafleur 2008 appears to be maturing in accomplished fashion in bottle. It has lovely definition on the nose, quite floral with violet scents and just a touch of Italian cured meat lending complexity. The palate is sappy and saline, a "cool customer" in the sense that it is not concentrated (in keeping with the growing season), but holds everything back. Perhaps it might put on a little weight with continued bottle age? Maybe, but I see no reason not to broach this wine now and hold a couple back, just to see what it can do. Tasted February 2015.
