The 1991 Les Pensées de Lafleur marked the second occasion that Jacques Guinaudeau bottled the entire production as the Deuxième Vin after the infamous late spring frosts. Just eight barrels were eked out from secondary fruit. It offers dried blood, tobacco and subtle antique furniture scents on the nose. The palate is nicely balanced, still fresh with more weight than you would presuppose. No greenness, no vegetal element, just commendable vigour. Chapeau! Tasted from ex-château bottle at Kate & Kon's 40-Year vertical in Austria.

There was no Lafleur produced in 1991. Much of the production was declassified into this second wine, Les Pensees de Lafleur. It is easy to understand why. The only positive thing the light, diluted, short, compact 1991 exhibits is some decent cherry fruit. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.
