2020 Barons de Rothschild Pauillac Reserve Speciale

The fruit for Domaines Barons de Rothschild’s Réserve Spéciale is partly sourced from the younger vines at Chx Duhart-Milon and Lafite-Rothschild – two outstanding wines in 2020. It was a real stand-out vintage for Duhart-Milon, whose wines have improved massively in the last few years. The nose is bright and crunchy, full of cassis with a graphite freshness and red-berried lift. The palate is classically styled and savoury. Glossy bramble fruit balances the smooth tannins, making this wine surprisingly approachable even as a two-year-old. This vibrant, moreish Claret is archetypal Pauillac that offers a taste of the Rothschild’s style and expertise – all for an almost outrageously modest sum.
