Tasting notes
The "Vieilles Vignes" here are impressive – some over 105 years old. These deep-rooted centenarians add structure, depth and concentration that belies this wine’s village status. It’s vibrant, with lifted red berry tones and floral energy. The acidity brings a redcurrant bite, complementing the cherry richness and mineral freshness. Bright and long with a firm structure, this is really impressive in 2021.

Cask sample. Pretty and red-fruited but, again, the protective SO 2 is a bit intrusive at the moment. The pretty scent on the palate too – not as dark-fruited as I usually expect from Gevrey. Peppery and juicy on the palate. Better balance than the Chambolle. (JH)
About the producer

The wines of Henri & Philippe Jouan fly under the radar – and, with the current quantities produced (from just three hectares of vines), this is unlikely to change any time soon.
