Bottled 2004. Pale tawny brown. Lots of floor polish and walnuts, hint of mushrooms, and then a fabulous freshness on the finish, almost overwhelming acidity – slightly harsh on the end. Bone dry. Some bitter orange on the finish. Quite lean but a great palate cleanser. (JH)

This Sercial was aged for 28 years in American oak casks. RS 50.61 g/l, TA 9.38 g/l, pH 3.33. Bottled in 2004. Relatively pale compared with all the others, like a deep gold with orange notes. Light nose, dusty and gently delineated like fine lace. Mouthwatering and tingling with cedary, sawdust spices. Dry and yet tinged with the delicate sweet-bitterness of Seville orange marmalade. Lots of orange and lemon and a creaminess and steely minerality that combine in the mouth like lemon pie on a cold silver spoon. Chiselled on the finish. Stunning. (TC)
