Tasting notes
The Giuseppe Mascarello 2016 Barolo Monprivato is a beautiful wine that is teeming with energy, depth and electricity. This is a naturally very complex and complete wine, thanks to the extraordinary conditions of this epic growing season. The results are relatable and impactful, as fruit from 2016 shows power, grace and lots of clearly recognized varietal purity. This edition of Monprivato is fine and sensual with soft berry tones that cede to blue flower, candied orange peel, fresh mint and earthy rust. The wine's tannins and structure build momentum and staying power. This wine is large in scope and impressive (released with 15,000 bottles made).

There is pure cherry and currant fruit hidden beneath a veneer of tannins in this red, along with mint, iron, tea and tobacco accents. Sleek and refined, harmonious and complex, with a long aftertaste of cherry, mint and mineral. This is poised to evolve beautifully over the next two to three decades. 1,659 cases made.
The 2016 Barolo Monprivato is rich, sensual and layered in the glass, with a bit more mid-palate depth and creaminess than past vintages have shown. Bright red berry fruit, blood orange, mint, spice and rose petal are some of the notes that grace this pliant, open-knit Barolo.
