Cask sample. Lots of sweet fruit and polish. More guts to this than to many a Maranges red. (JR)

Tank sample. A touch reductive and stinky on the nose, cocoa. Firm tannins and a slightly drying note to the tannins. Lacking a little poise and energy. (AC)

The 2020 Maranges La Fussières 1er Cru Rouge, which contains slightly less whole bunch than the Village, has a more austere, well-defined, stony bouquet featuring dark berry fruit and touches of black tea. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit and slightly granular in texture, leading to a cohesive, sustained finish. Very classy, and I reckon this should be quite approachable thanks to its pliancy.
