Tasting notes
(15.4% alcohol): Bright dark red; more saturated than the 2013. Exotic fruit suggestions along with a hint of licorice on the nose. Boasts hugely rich, deep, palate-staining fruit with a slightly candied quality; a bit more powerful than the 2013 but still with this bottling's characteristic energy. This intriguing, tactile wine finishes with substantial tannins that call for patience. Passalacqua noted that owing to the drought influence in 2014, the crop was tiny and the harvest very early, taking place in late August. He noted that grape sugars were mounting very quickly at the end, adding that 2014 was "the first time I wished the vineyard had irrigation."

One of the flagship wines in this range, the 2014 Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard is rich, powerful and intense, but it also has the frame to handle the richness. Aromatic top notes of cedar, tobacco, mint and smoke add nuance throughout. The Hayne is a big wine, but it is also impeccably balanced. Today, it is a total knock out.
Possibly the most famous of all of the Turley Zinfandels, is the 2014 Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard from an old head-pruned vineyard (planted in 1902 and 1903) on the back streets of St. Helena near the library. Possibly the quintessential Napa Valley Zinfandel, it is full-bodied, with glorious levels of blue, black and red fruits, floral notes, a full-bodied, seamless, opulent texture and stunning mouthfeel, without a trace of heaviness or heat. It is sensationally rich, beautifully pure, and a classic, world-class wine made from ancient vines that have been translated into a meticulously crafted wine. Drink it over the next decade.
Another big, explosive Napa Valley Zinfandel, the 2014 Hayne Vineyard possesses superb intensity and overall depth. Black stone fruit, licorice, smoke, game and tobacco are all pushed forward. Ample, powerful and structured, the 2014 is wonderfully complete from start to finish.
