Tasting notes
Normally there are two 15hl casks dedicated to the Rosso di Montalcino, but this cask showed differently to the other. Matthew Fioretti really enjoyed the wine’s Nebbiolo/Pinot Noir-like characteristics and decided, rather than blending its character away, to bottle it separately – and thank goodness he did. This is a classic wine from a great vintage. Pure Sangiovese, the nose opens with elegant white pepper and dark cherry. The palate is medium to full-bodied with lightly structured tannins and ripe, red fruit, yet it has great freshness that is driven by an excellent nerve of acidity. The mid-palate is layered with more dark cherry and strawberry fruit that fills the long, persistent finish. This wine is only made in certain vintages –in 2013, 2016 and now 2019. With no 2020 or 2021 produced, this is worth snapping up and as Fioretti said himself: ‘It is a connoisseur's delight!’.
About the producer

A cult address for many Italian fine wine lovers, Cerbaiona is one of Montalcino’s top estates. The site has long been identified as special, but it was Diego Molinari who established its reputation. Today, Matthew Fioretti is at the helm, bringing the estate into the modern era.
