Tasting notes
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a backward nose. There's a little reduction but not as much as others. The dense, "serious" dark berry fruit is laced with sous-bois . Returning after ten minutes, it gains more delineation and personality. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy dark berry fruit, sea salt, a touch of graphite and, towards the finish, cracked black pepper. The tongue tingles after the wine has exited. The 2020 is a bit "broad-shouldered" at the moment but a keeper. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Rich but precise, the 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St Jacques exhibits notions of raspberries and plums mingled with rose petals, sweet soil tones and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and perfumed, with lively acids, ripe tannins and a long, saline finish, it's showing beautifully.
Rich purple here, waiting for the bouquet to emerge, plumper and less stern than Estournelles. A huge wealth of fruit, as yet a little monotone, but will develop further from here. There really is a great deal of stuffing here for a long term future. Tasted: November 2021
