Tasting notes
From the almost 200,000 casks housed at Tomatin, we chose just one for this exclusive bottling. From 1988, this is one of the earliest bottlings from the new era at this Highland distillery, when Takara Shuzo took over the operation and transformed it, with a newfound focus on quality. The spirits consistently receive critical acclaim – taking gold and double gold for its 30 and 36 Year Old bottlings at San Francisco’s prestigious World Spirits Competition – and the distillery recently named IWSC’s Scotch Whisky Producer of the Year. This special 32-year-old single malt was matured in re-charred American oak casks. The resulting liquid is characteristically vibrant and rich on the nose, evoking notes of stewed apples, raisins and just a faint touch of spicy cinnamon. It opens up to a deliciously smooth and buttery palate of hazelnut and pine nuts, and the finish is warm and peppery. It’s a stunningly well-balanced and delicious dram with a vitality that defies its age. Distilled in 1988 and bottled in October 2021, under 300 bottles were produced.
This whisky is discounted from £470 to £340 per 70cl bottle in bond.
About the producer

Founded in 1897, Highland distillery Tomatin has swelled and shrunk during subsequent whisky booms and busts. Its approachable, light, unpeated style was so popular in blends that Tomatin became the largest malt distillery in Scotland.
