This Collection Case offers a rare opportunity to explore three vintages of Corton Grand Cru, containing two bottles each of 1989, 1990 and 1991. Nicolas Potel (Domaine de Bellene and Maison Roche de Bellene) seeks out parcels of mature Burgundy for his Collection Bellenum label. He opens and tastes every bottle to ensure quality, re-blending the entire parcel in vat before bottling under his own name. This trio of superb Pinot Noirs is extraordinary. Corton produces rich and structured reds, but now with three decades under their belt, these are drinking beautifully. The 1989 is haunting – scented with lavender, cinnamon, rich dark cherry and savoury complexity. The palate is long and lithe, with an herbaceous freshness and a redcurrant vibrancy to it, the tannins seamless. The 1990 is firmer, the tannic structure a little more present, while the nose is more dominated by tertiary character. The 1991 is the most delicate of the three – with a fragrant nose of florals, bright red berry fruit and sweet spice over more mature, earthy notes. Savour all three now and over the next year or two.
