Tasting notes
Deeper-pitched than the Vosne-Romanée La Colombière, the 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots unwinds in the glass with scents of cassis, plums and raspberries mingled with top notes of rose petals, espresso roast and rich spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, it's deep and layered, with an ample core of fruit and ripe, powdery tannins. It's an especially charming rendition of this immensely consistent cuvée.

Cask sample. Dark crimson. Light green undergrowth impression on the nose. Very juicy with super-polished tannins. Not as sweet as some 2019s. Lots to chew on. Morello cherries here. Still very youthful. Relatively backward. (JR)
The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaignots 1er Cru has the most expressive aromatics of the three wines that I tasted from the appellation at Domaine Mugneret. Only half the number of barrels were produced this year due to very small bunch weight. This has vibrant red berry fruit, wild strawberry, shaved black truffle and light crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, quite taut and more linear than the Les Vignes Rondes, and certainly with greater tension toward the saline finish. Excellent.
