Velier CEO Luca Gargano discovered the treasure trove of Caroni barrels in Trinidad in 2004, a year after it shuttered for good, and a year before it was demolished – sealing the cult distillery’s fate. Since 2005, Velier has been releasing a handful of Caroni bottlings onto the market each year. This 1988 is a blend of 20 barrels. After the distillery closed, the barrels were transferred to Guyana where they spent another four years maturing, before being bottled in 2008.
