Score 17.5/20 · Drink 2020-2038, Jancis Robinson MW, May 2025

Fermented with ambient yeasts and 30% whole clusters. Basket-pressed to French oak (roughly 30% new) for 22 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Aged for 1 year in bottle before release. 250 cases produced. Tasted from magnum. Medium to dark ruby. Aromas of camphor, dried flowers and dusty roads. Powdery tannins wrap around a core of baking spices, blackcurrant, dried and chopped green herbs, dried flowers and blood orange. Lean but not austere, the acidity here and lack of weight on the palate combine to convey elegance. (AY)

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Fellom Ranch is sensual and nuanced, with tremendous textural finesse. Over the last few years, Duncan Arnot and Nathan Roberts seem to have given this wine an extra degree of elegance - especially in the tannins - that other vintages did not always show. Time in the glass brings out a range of floral, earthy, spiced and cedary notes that are typical of Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernets, along with layers of dimension that flesh out effortlessly.
