FINE+RARE, Oct 2020

This fine single malt was distilled in 1959, and has since been quietly maturing in an ex-Sherry hogshead. Over the half-century since its distillation, the angels have taken quite a share – leaving a mere 105 bottles for us mortals to savour. Each one comes in a hand-blown crystal Glencairn decanter and a suede-lined oak presentation box hand-crafted by N.E.J. Stevenson, cabinet-makers to Her Majesty the Queen. Described by sixth-generation owner George Grant as “a traditional old-style Glenfarclas”, this special Scotch is layered with notes of Christmas spice, orange, dark chocolate and rich fruit – and who knows how long it will be until we see another Glenfarclas with this much age.
