Tasting notes
The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Casasilia shows the darker side of Sangiovese. Black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice all run through this deep Chianti Classico. Pliant and nicely layered, the 2015 will drink well with minimal cellaring. This is an especially rich, extracted style, but it works.

Poggio al Sole's 2015 Casasilia is soft and fruity, which will make it easy to drink upon release. Medium in body, with pretty floral, red berry and earthy notes, the 2015 is an especially gracious wine for the year. It is also a rather simple and modest in structure for a wine that is supposed to sit within the top appellation in Chianti Classico. Technically speaking, the Casasilia meets all the guidelines of Gran Selezione, but in tasting it is not especially distinguished, nor is it a wine that will bring any great prestige to the estate, region or appellation.
The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Casasilia is a standout wine that delivers elegance and intensity. This vintage paints a generous and cheerful portrait of the Sangiovese grape, and Poggio al Sole has captured that spirit with this bottle. Soft layers of cherry and wild berry segue to crushed stone, grilled herb and blue violets. Only 9,500 bottles were made.
