The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots has turned out brilliantly, bursting from the glass with aromas of cassis, black plums and cherries mingled with hints of spices, orange rind and violets. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, with lively acids, ripe tannins and a generous core of fruit, it confirms that Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg performed especially well in the 2018 vintage.
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaignots 1er Cru, like the 2019, has the most expressive bouquet of fruité , crushed strawberry, morello cherries and cranberry; rose petal and light briny aromas emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, and quite fleshy and generous, leading to a supple, vivid finish. Yet again, a sublime Les Chaignots.
Deepish crimson. Ripe, sweet and generous on the nose, with both fresh and dried cherry. It seems a little bit flat on the palate at the moment, the tannins tying everything to the ground, but it is still in barrel and I think with these refined and attractively dry tannins it will flower with time.
