The 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru has turned out beautifully in bottle, opening in the glass with integrated aromas of pear, citrus oil, fresh bread and white flowers. Full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's elegantly textural, deep and complete, with terrific balance, fine concentration and a long, nicely defined finish.

The 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru comes from 0.11 hectares of 80-year-old vines that yield two barrels (one new barrel and the other tailored to the size of the crop). It has a very intense bouquet of citrus fruit, yellow flowers, orange blossom, crushed limestone and white peach – a nose that takes no prisoners. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity, very mineral driven, and very intense and rich, with a strong saline finish. It is actually a relatively broody Montrachet compared to the 2017 and as such it will require longer aging in bottle, presuming you can find a bottle. A slow-burning epic.

*Burghound Don't Miss!!* A more restrained and slightly cooler nose reluctantly offers up its combination of essence of apple, pear, wet stone, citrus rind and an interesting hint of jasmine tea. The super-sleek and wonderfully intense flavors also possess imposing size, weight and power while exhibiting huge length on the compact, serious and chiseled finish. This too is clearly built-to-age and is a wine that is going to need at least a decade to reveal its potential and probably 12 to 15 to fully peak.
